September 19, 2012 – Keith Stava, Managing Director of Virginia Stage Company, gratefully accepted a $12,500 donation from the Norfolk Sertoma Club. On behalf of the Club, Preston Garner (Project Chairman) and Pete Galanides (Past President) gave this donation to VSC to replace the 25 year old listening assistance device system currently in use at the Wells Theatre. Stava thanked the members of the Norfolk Sertoma Club for their generous donation and told them “this new Listening Assistance System will help bring the beauty, drama and entertainment of live, professional theater to over 40,000 Hampton Roads residents and over 9,000 area students who attend VSC productions at the Wells Theatre every year.”
The new system will be a FM frequency system by Listen Technologies Corporation and will include 36 wireless personal listening devices for complimentary usage by all Wells Theatre patrons. While these personal listening devices come with their own ear speakers, patrons will have the option of plugging in their own, personal ear speakers if they bring them along to the theater. The system will also include recharger units and rechargeable batteries. This grant is also providing the funds to have a new Patron’s Services stand built for the Wells Theatre lobby. The new system and Patron’s Service stand will be up and running for VSC’s 34th season opening production of Fences by August Wilson, from September 25 through October 14 at the Wells Theatre.
