Chris Hanna’s (Artistic Director) directing credits have taken him from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Juneau, Alaska, and have included productions Off Broadway, at the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, and the Juilliard School. He served as Associate Artistic Director of Virginia Stage Company from l984- l991; favorites among his many previous productions at the Wells include The Rainmaker, Arms and the Man, Ah Wilderness! and the world premiere of Alan Havis’ play Morocco. He has served as Resident Director at the Juilliard School, as Artistic Associate for seven seasons with the Chautauqua Theatre Company, and is presently Director of Theatre at Old Dominion University. He holds a MFA in Directing from the University of California, San Diego, and is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
Keith Stava (Managing Director) brings twenty-eight years of experience from both the nonprofit and the commercial theater to Virginia Stage Company. Locally, Keith has served as the Executive Producer of the Commonwealth Theatre Company and Executive Director of Virginia Opera. He was also the Producer/Manager of the prestigious Los Angeles Civic Light Opera as well as the San Bernardino and Long Beach Civic Light Operas. His commercial theater work includes Producer of the 1990-92 Broadway and National Tour of Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby (for which Keith was nominated for a Tony Award - Best Revival of a Musical) and a six-month engagement of Tap Dogs in Las Vegas. For all his hundreds of shows, the productions he is the most proud of are actually co-productions with his wife Nancy, namely their three children: Ryan, Neal and Emily.
Patrick Mullins (Associate Artistic Director) is in his fourth season at Virginia Stage Company and leads the Education and Outreach programs of Virginia Stage Company. In the 2008-2009 season, he directed the education touring productions of 1001 Arabian Nights: The Story of Aladdin and Romeo & Juliet and the mainstage production of A Christmas Carol. Mr. Mullins hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and his theatrical work has taken him across the nation spanning from Florida to Colorado, although his first career was spent in secondary education primarily in the Atlanta area. Recent directorial work includes The Fisherman and His Wife, Metamorphosis, Little Shop of Horrors and Oedipus Rex. Local audiences will recognize Mr. Mullins from the Virginia Stage Company's production of Treasure Island and Goodly Creatures, as well as Hampton Roads Shakespeare Festival's Hamlet, in which he played the title role. Recent acting work includes Danny in Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and John Hale in The Crucible. Mr. Mullins holds a MFA from the University of South Carolina and is proud to be a resident artist of Virginia Stage Company.
Terry Summers Flint ( Production Manager) recently moved down the hall and up the ladder at VSC after four seasons as Properties Master and is excited about her new role as Production Manager. She is also glad to be continuing as an occasional scenic designer for VSC. Her past designs here include A Raisin in the Sun, Billy Bishop Goes to War, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, and Hansel and Gretel’s Grimm Tale. Favorite past designs outside VSC include Vinegar Tom, Arcadia, StopKiss, and The Odyssey. She has worked at American Repertory Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and received her MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her BA from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She gives her sincere thanks to the stellar production staff at VSC and to the audience for continuing to support local theatres!
